Who Are We?

We are a grassroots Orthodox organization reshaping the relationship between religion and state in Israel by challenging the Chief Rabbinate’s exclusive control over Jewish marriage. As the only organization currently offering private halachic weddings outside the Rabbinate, we are creating a new model for religious freedom grounded in tradition, integrity, and choice.

We believe that every Jewish Israeli deserves the right to stand beneath an Orthodox chuppah with dignity, respect, and freedom in a ceremony rooted in Halacha, and free from coercion or politics.

At our heart, we are the religious voice for freedom of religion in Israel, working to make halachic weddings more accessible, inclusive, and protective of every couple who turns to us.

Our weddings honor tradition while safeguarding the future. Every couple who marries through Chuppot signs a halachic prenuptial agreement as well as conditional terms in the kiddushin (betrothal). These safeguards are powerful tools to prevent get refusal (aginut) and ensure that both partners are protected with fairness, integrity, and mutual respect.

We are not only building a new path to the chuppah; we are building a new vision for inclusive Jewish life in Israel: one rooted in Halacha, guided by choice, and grounded in dignity.

Our Story

Chuppot was born from a simple and powerful belief: Halacha should never be a barrier; it should be a bridge.

We are a grassroots Orthodox movement, built from the same visionaries behind Hashgacha Pratit, the groundbreaking organization that successfully challenged the Chief Rabbinate’s monopoly over kashrut supervision in Israel.

Following the landmark Supreme Court victory in 2018, which opened Israel’s kosher food industry to competition for the first time, our founders turned their attention to the next frontier of religious freedom: marriage.

Here’s why: In Israel, the state itself can refuse to marry halachically Jewish couples. Every year, thousands of Israelis are told they must either leave the country to marry, abandon Jewish tradition altogether, or submit to a Chief Rabbinate they view as coercive, politicized, and disconnected from their lives.

For us at Chuppot, this reality is — and will always be — unacceptable.

In response, we built Israel’s only Orthodox framework for halachic weddings outside the control of the Chief Rabbinate. In just six years, we have married over 3,000 Israelis via Orthodox weddings grounded in Halacha, guided by choice, and free from coercion.

We work with a growing network of male and female Orthodox wedding officiants – Rabbis who bring tradition, dignity, and care to every couple who turns to us.

But Chuppot is more than a wedding organization.

We are a movement.

We are a flourishing community of social activists, Rabbinic leaders, and everyday Israelis committed to creating a more open, inclusive, and just Jewish future. We stand proudly for religious freedom in Israel – not as a rejection of tradition, but as its most faithful and authentic expression.

What We Do

Halachic Weddings — With Respect, Integrity, and Freedom

Chuppot provides Orthodox, halachic weddings for Israeli couples seeking tradition — without control. Some of our couples are ineligible to marry through the Rabbinate. Most simply choose not to – out of protest, out of principle, and out of a desire to build Jewish life on their own terms.

Education and Community Impact

Beyond weddings, Chuppot works tirelessly to change the public conversation around religion and state in Israel. We educate through:

• Pre-army programs, gap year courses, and lectures at universities, yeshivot and seminaries
• Workshops on Jewish law, marriage rights, and aginut prevention
• Alumni education and community activism
• Public lectures and conferences on freedom of marriage

We amplify the voices of our couples through storytelling, social media ambassadorship, and thought leadership, reaching hundreds of thousands of Israelis with a new vision for Jewish life.

Policy & Advocacy

We advocate for systemic change, working in the Knesset, with decision makers, and within the religious community itself.

We engage in:

• Policy advocacy on religion and state
• Strategic partnerships with Modern Orthodox leaders and institutions
• Public campaigns to end the Rabbinate’s monopoly on Jewish life

Why it Matters

Israel is at a turning point.

Today, nearly 20% of young Israeli couples are leaving the country to marry abroad. Only 13% of Israelis trust the Chief Rabbinate –  the lowest figure on record.

But these couples are not rejecting Judaism. They’re rejecting control.

Chuppot is building a future where Jewish life in Israel is driven by integrity, choice, and love of tradition… not coercion.

In 2024 alone, over 70% of Israelis support alternatives to the Rabbinate for Orthodox marriage. Chuppot is proud to be leading the way.
